If you really want to test your game, there is a vast array of organized tours and events for amateur golfers from which to choose. A great place to start is with your local, state or regional golf association, where the cost of a membership rewards you with a lot of great golf run to USGA standards.

- I found a bit of discrepancy between the print advertising and the website information but this event looks to be a great opportunity for amateur golfers, irregardless. The print ad I found mentioned “twenty regional qualifying stroke-play tournaments.” The website lists only six qualifiers and is appears to be somewhat incomplete. Whatever the facts turn out to be, as a net tournament with three divisions, the Nature Valley Amateur is an exciting venue for amatuer golfers of all caliber.
Editor’s note (since this is my blog, after all): Every year out on the golf course I stock my bag with a few new energy bars, take a bite of each, and chuck the remainder. As a whole, to me, they prove either too sweet, too bland, too gooey or too much like cardboard. Of all the energy bars in all the world, Nature Valley is nearly the only one I can honestly say tastes like actual food. I think they’ve been around since my granola head days of the 60’s and 70’s. Give me the tried and true! (O.K., Nature Valley, will that get me a sponsor’s exemption into a qualifier?)
