A Member-Guest: A Day to Remember

You could not order a more perfect day for golf.

The morning of the eighteen hole member-guest dawned cool and breezy, a surprising and welcome mid-summer respite from the sticky humidity of the past few months. Temps rose to the mid-seventies; a light ocean breeze scrubbed the air so clean it sparkled and colored the sky so blue it made you smile just to look at it. And laugh? Did we ever!

We were a foursome brought together through an acquaintance - and a love of the game. From the very first tee, we were a good team. Our golf handicaps were all within a stroke or two, our games compatible, and our enthusiasm contagious.

The course was a newly redesigned layout, a Jack Nicklaus creation of picture perfect vistas. Not long – at least from our tees – but fairly narrow, with green fairways edged by tousled buff colored fescue that was painted here and there with wild flowers of various hues. Bunkers were copiously sprinkled about, in play off the tee and guarding every green, yet not unfairly placed, with generous landing spots provided. The course is young – and will improve with age – but is already a truly enjoyable track.

As only just introduced friends, our familiarity as a group was nearly as new as the course. A happy little troupe, we blended together as well as the newly carved landscape, a natural fit.

The course was great; the weather was perfect and the company as good as it gets. We played some pretty good golf, ate well and laughed heartily. As a team, we had game. Going home with the “W” was icing on the cake.
