Competitive Golf, Golf and Friendship, Just golf

Live, Laugh… and Play Golf

Life often holds a good deal of somber and sobering weight these days. For the majority of us, golf is a pastime. Golf is supposed to be fun and therefore a relief from the seriousness of the real world. I propose that you play your next casual round with friends in a match format of decidedly light heart and laughter. Even the PGA gets to play a “silly season.”

A few suggestions for wagers to make you find the humor and hope in even the worst golf shot:

Barkies: A standard, especially at a heavily treed course. Making par when any of your shots on the hole hit a tree.

Farsies: A par made with at least one shot played from a fairway other than your own.

Nasties: Not to confused with Barkies, this is par made after any horrific shot, be it a roll off the tee, sent deep in the woods (irregardless of if it hit a tree), a water ball, etc. Hitter must request a ruling on what constitutes an individual Nasty; a decision must be made prior to the next shot and majority rules.

One-sies: Par made with a one putt. Definitely beneficial to the whiner who claims they can’t get home in regulation.

Of course, there are also the betting standards of greenies, sandies, birdies. Use your imagination and come up with a few bets that might be unique to your home course. Most of all, go out and have fun.

Life is short; play golf.
