Just golf

What do Golfers really want?

Statistics show that golfers spend almost five billion dollars per year on equipment. I am guessing that perhaps $4 ½ billion of that is given as Christmas gifts to golfers from non-golfing relatives. Even though many of our friends and relatives don’t really understand what we do out there on the course for hours on end, and I know it is already too late for this year, here is a short list of some basic wants and needs you might pass along:

This is what not to buy a serious golfer:

” any training aid Kevin Costner was wearing in Tin Cup
” a clicker to count our strokes (if it’s that bad, we don’t want to know)
” clothing with more than three colors (exceptions; girlie-girls, and sorry, also Sergio Garcia… another story)
” any golf item “as seen on TV”
” colored balls (again, apologies to girlie-girls and Crystal Golf Balls

What we do want:

” understanding when we’re an hour (or more?) late getting off the course (really, there is such a thing as a five and a half hour round)
” a free pass from a family function when the weather is just too good not to play
” any new club (or clubs) of our choosing at any time our game needs a pick-me-up
” really good rain gear (apparently we are so stupid we don’t know when to come in from the rain)
” no argument when we buy some sort of training aid that looks like something Kevin Costner wore in Tin Cup (yes, some times we are that desperate)

And the best gift of all? More time to play more golf, of course.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
