Can your child play college golf?

According to the National Golf Foundation recently released data states there are over six million junior (aged 5-17) golfers in the U.S. Some estimates put available funds for golf scholarships as high as $6.5 million dollars.

Over 75 percent of junior players are male.

In division I and division II schools the NCAA allows a total of 1,970 scholarships for men’s golf and 1,788 for women’s golf.

What this means is that currently there is a greater chance for securing a golf scholarship for a female player than for a male. Mothers and fathers of aspiring young woman golfers take note!

According to the PING American College Golf Guide it is possible for a player of moderate success to find some financial assistance with proper direction and realistic expectations.

“The talent levels among college golfers span the spectrum. The best players frequently post sub-par rounds; however, there are thousands of men playing on college golf teams whose average score is in the 80’s or higher and thousands of women playing college golf who shoot in the 90’s or 100’s.”

So if you actually need a reason to encourage your child to participate in the game of golf, now you have one; consider it an investment in her/his future.
